It’s that time of year again. Farmer’s markets are closing up shop for the season. I’ve got 4 ideas to support your farmers and favorite makers (a chicken farmer, soap makers, cheesemonger, and tea specialist) until spring.
Farmer’s Markets
Many of us are ready for a much-needed respite, a break from the constant running and dragging of tents from church parking lots to schools and breweries all over town. However, we love our customers!
I absolutely look forward to the weekly visits from my “regulars” at the market. The dad and son that stop by and bring me recipes to try, the woman who comes early to make sure she gets chicken hearts and livers before we sell out (and we sell out EVERY SINGLE TIME); the older couple who stops by to thank us for what we do and my two favorite guys who always buy a whole chicken.
Support Your Farmers During The Winter
1. Stock up To Support Your Farmers
Fill your freezers, pantries, and cabinets with all of the goodies your local artisans have to offer. For me, that means getting enough lavender soap to last me until April and grabbing a few different kinds of cheese that I can freeze.
2. Get Added to Newsletters
Vendors love staying in touch! Make sure you ask if they have a newsletter or email list and get added. Our emails have recipes, cute animal pics, and bloopers from our farm.
3. Like and Share on Social Media
Show them some digital love with “likes” and “shares.” Not only does it make us feel fantastic, but it also helps us win the algorithm game, so we can reach more people and get new customers.
4. Ask How to Buy During the Off-Season
From on-farm pick up to boutique grocery stores, there are probably several ways to continue buying through the off-season… JUST ASK! If you’d like to support our farm, shop our farm to table store!
